Sabin Tigu appointed as IP partner at Ploum
Ploum Rotterdam Law Firm has appointed Sabin Tigu as partner in its Intellectual Property Group on 1 January 2020. In doing so, the firm, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020, is taking another step in the course focused on growth and innovation.
Commenting on Sabin’s appointment, Rutger Ploum, managing partner said: “We are proud to welcome such an ambitious and dedicated lawyer as Sabin to the partnership. Sabin, after pursuing a career as a professional tennis player, has climbed the ranks in our firm and has proven to be a great asset to our firm and our clients. This promotion builds on the growth of our Intellectual Property Team which was strengthened with the arrival of Yvonne Hamerling (senior trademark attorney) and Sophie Schneiders (trademark attorney) last year. Such a strong IP Team in our firm supports an even stronger independent position of our firm in the market.” Willem Leppink, senior partner Intellectual Property, commented: “I am delighted with Sabin’s promotion. This promotion underpins our approach of serving our clients’ needs in finding the best solutions in clear language. Sabin is a true entrepreneur and therefore knows what other entrepreneurs need. I am looking forward in further building our team side by side with Sabin.”
Sabin Tigu primarily concentrates on trademarks, design rights and copyright and commercial law. Furthermore, Sabin has extensive experience in relation to large-scale and long-term projects for international clients, setting up and coordinating parallel trade and anti-counterfeiting programs, sometimes in close collaboration with European Customs authorities. He recently made the news and was mentioned in the newspapers in a case about unlawful parallel trade in which his client prevailed. Sabin regularly handles domain name disputes before the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Sabin has been the leading force of Ploum’s successful StartUp Team.
Sabin is a member of the editorial board of Benelux IP journal BMM Bulletin and is active in brand owners’ organization MARQUES. In 2019 Sabin was named Rising Star in Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Stars. He was also mentioned in the Legal500 last year. In that same year Ploum’s complete IP team was awarded a ranking in World Trademark Review’s WTR1000: “Ploum is a one-stop trademark shop that prioritizes giving personal attention to clients and building long-lasting relationships. The world-renowned and popular Willem Leppink is the frontrunner of the IP team and is known for providing farsighted counsel which accounts for commercial interests. “Willem is a constructive legal communicator who is driven to achieve common-sense results – a can-do lawyer who gets the job done, he is the number one for negotiations and the person to hire if you want a complex matter sorted.” A master of many trades, Leppink sports an impressive online and offline anti-counterfeiting practice. The ensemble also beefed up its bustling prosecution practice this year with the hire of an additional senior trademark attorney.”
