PRESS RELEASE – Ploum boosts its position with the arrival of a customs, trade and logistics team and reinforcement of its banking & finance practice
On 1 May 2019, Ploum will reinforce its banking & finance team with the arrival of two partners from Eversheds Sutherland and an associate from Houthoff. On the same day, the entire Customs, trade and logistics team of Kneppelhout & Korthals will move to Ploum.
In the first months of 2019, Ploum has already reached the set growth target being similar to the growth target in the previous three years. A sophisticated move, also in the light of Brexit.
The “Rotterdam Law Firm”, as the firm positions itself, thus strengthens its competitive position in the medium-sized law firm segment in the Netherlands. “With this step we bring in two unique legal practice areas, in addition to the already existing, wide range of expertise and services. Many laws and regulations are becoming increasingly complex. In addition, the business world is exposed to stricter rules. Compliance is essential. With the arrival of both teams, Ploum is responding to this development. The banking & finance team has a strong focus on regulated markets where regulators as are active. The customs, trade and logistics team is a wonderful addition to our commercial practice and emphasizes our strong relationship with Rotterdam and the port of Rotterdam. International trade and logistics are important drivers for the economy in the Greater Rotterdam region. Authorities such as customs and the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority play an important role in this. Consider, for example, food safety, export control and sanitation regulations. Ploum is already strong in the areas of energy law, competition law, privacy law, environmental law. With the arrival of these two new practices, our array of regulatory practices is complete. And they are also very nice, pleasant colleagues. They have the same mentality as we do: work hard for the best result for our clients. That is why I expect a lot from this new addition.” says a proud Rutger Ploum, managing partner of the firm. According to the Stand van de Advocatuur, which ranks Dutch firms, Ploum was the fastest growing firm in 2018. It is therefore great news that this growth will continue in 2019. Ploum is known as a no-nonsense firm, which is very committed to the relationship with clients. This is clear from the fact that two clients of the firm play a leading role in the marketing campaign, which already won two prizes in 2019 (professional jury and jury consisting of students and young lawyers).
